Office drama on a Friday

I should have typed this on Friday but then I did not want to give so much hype to the incidence. It is some minutes after 10 AM on Friday 11th March 2011 and everyone is in a rush to dash to the office kitchen to get some tea..As always Fridays have a way of making people happy, free and looking up to the weekend. To make it even more easy for most of us who get intimidated by big figures of authority, there was an internal meeting and most of the big guns were attending the meeting implying that we were in command.

Once in the kitchen I reached out for some cakes that my friend and I had arranged to be delivered for us in the office. They were like 9 of them and the sharing spirit in me inspired me to like share them amongst my workmates. At this juncture I picked up 1 from the pack and went straight to Esther."This one is for you dear," I said. She looked at it then just decided not to pick it.I followed her and insisted that she should have it but again she refused.I hadn't noticed that there was some silence in the kitchen when I decided to place the cake on her shoulder as she was leaning on the wall when I heard the CEO say,"So you were all waiting for me to go?"

I couldn't believe that I had gotten so busted placing a cake on someone's shoulder by the CEO.I wished Esther had accepted the offer and I wouldn't have gotten this embarrassed.I slid back to my seat and couldn't even do a second cake with my tea now cold.I hurriedly finished and went back to my workstation and stayed muted for the entire day and hoped not to get a warning e-mail or something close to that.

The weekend ahead had seemingly looked damp but the tempo climaxed on Saturday evening after my favourite European English team,Manchester united beat Arsenal 2-0.

I created a Windows Service!

windows service i created
I have wanted to do it for some time.Today it was on my 'to do list'.Armed with my Visual Studio 2008,I embarked on search for the easiest tutorial on how to go about creating a simple windows service in C# and found one simple one at this URL http://www.dotnetfunda.com/articles/article1095-creating-a-windows-service-using-csharp-.aspx. I created the service, learnt how to install it and re-did it on my own to achieve various thoughts and ideas that I had.I also realised that for Visual Studio, one has to add a global variable path for installutil at this path C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727 in order to be able to install the service after building the projectinstaller.cs Now I want to develop more meaningful windows services that can be put into real productive use and especially ones that can connect to various databases including MySQL,MSSQL and all other industry production databases.

WEB APPLICATION PRESENTATION

I am just from a presentation where we have done a demo for an internal web application we are developing for our clients i.e Graham,Boniface and I, under the leadership of Mr.Mutonyi.I am so exhausted but then before I leave the office I can say I have something to make me feel gud as the weekend sets in.

It is as a result of this project that I have gotten significant skills in developing web applications using ASP.NET with a speciality in C#...such a wonderful experience if you are into developing rich client data driven client applications.

'I am addicted to SMOKING what will I do? ' WHAT A BAD DREAM

My former high school friend puffs at his cigar looks at me and says,"I feel better now after puffing at this brand of cigarette." I then puffed out a grey smoke and nodded my head in agreement. At this moment I felt the urge to lit another cigar.I realised I had gotten addicted.Just before I asked myself when I got addicted to smoking I woke up with a start.

It was only a BAD DREAM...I cant imagine if it were true how my colleagues would have gotten along with me belching smoke like a chimney

Procrastination

I realise when u discuss the topic PROCRASTINATION several things go into people's mind but the big thing is that almost all of us do it.I get surprised that no one looks at this context differently e.g like saying Good procrastination? i know this wouldn't auger well with the people who would want to make u believe that procrastination is bad..
I like this excerpt

GOOD AND BAD PROCRASTINATION
'Good procrastination is avoiding errands to do real work.

Good in a sense, at least. The people who want you to do the errands won't think it's good. But you probably have to annoy them if you want to get anything done. The mildest seeming people, if they want to do real work, all have a certain degree of ruthlessness when it comes to avoiding errands.

Some errands, like replying to letters, go away if you ignore them (perhaps taking friends with them). Others, like mowing the lawn, or filing tax returns, only get worse if you put them off. In principle it shouldn't work to put off the second kind of errand. You're going to have to do whatever it is eventually. Why not (as past-due notices are always saying) do it now?

How to Add Routes in UBUNTU

Lets say that you want to enable network from this subnet 192.168.26.0 eg
PC 1              IP:192.168.26.5
GATEWAY: IP:192.168.26.1

to reach your UBUNTU box e.g get a file from the UBUNTU box which is on a different network subnet from PC1 but then PC 1 can reach a router IP 10.0.0.70 and your UBUNTU box can also reach the router IP 10.0.0.70?

You proceed to add the following route at the terminal

#route add -net 192.168.26.0 gw 10.0.0.70 netmask 255.255.255.0 dev eth0

Note that I am assuming your subnetmask from PC 1 is 255.255.255.0 and that your active network card 'hardware' on your UBUNTU box is eth0
